vlc --socks option

I believe this functionality (tsocks) has been removed latterly from vlc. I know it works in 2.1.6. Is there anyone that can tell me the latest version of vlc in which tsocks is still operational? Thanks.

The SOCKS support code is still there. The set of compatible application protocols varies with versions.
