vlc media player keeps pausing every one second

I am using VLC 3.0.11 and I've noticed a recent problem. When I start a video, as it is playing, the video will have a very slight pause every one second or so. The video plays perfectly on WMP and a couple other video players I use. I can't figure out what is going on with this. This just started a couple days ago. I have searched for fixes and I've changed a couple settings but nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks.

Reset preferences as a first troubleshooting step. Go to Tools ---> Preferences and then click the "Reset Preferences" button at the bottom. Save, exit and then restart vlc.

That fixed it. Thanks. I didn't think to do that.
Any idea as to which setting might have been causing the problem?

Difficult to say without knowing what you were doing a couple of days ago. But installations get corrupted from time to time for no apparent reason unfortunately.
