Changing playback speed live

I figured out how to add the playback speed changer button to the UI. Now my issue is that I can still only change the playback speed in steps. I can switch from x1.00 speed to x1.04, to x1.09, to x1.13, etc...
How can I apply x0.01 steps for fine tuned adjustments on a per video basis?

There is no solution to the actual question in the article you linked. There is fine tuning possible. But by far not fine enough.

Try doing this then. In Preferences click "All" at the bottom and then type playback speed in the search field top left. Click Input/Codecs in the result and then in the right hand panel under Playback control menu, Playback speed set it to 0.01. Save, exit and restart vlc.

Sounds like a handy way to quickly and efficiently change the Playback Speed while watching a video. Does not interrupt the viewing experience, at all.
