DVD reading issue

Postby Faënril » 24 Jan 2006 10:41

Hello

I think VLC is great, hope he could read RA and RAM but that is not so important.

I have tried to read two of my Babylon 5 DVD without modifying VLC DVD settings and at each time the DVD does not play from the 1st pist but begins elsewere

the fist cd of season one begins with the bonus track...

the second CD begins with the opening sequence of the second or third episode... I have not tried other DVD for now... the DVD works just fine with Power DVD, but I want to give a try for VLC as my universal media player (I am a bit lazy) so anyone know how to fix this issue ?

Thanks and regards

Faënril

Try using DVD (menu) rather than DVD (simple) and calling the DVD from within VLC. This should work just like PowerDVD or WinDVD. Use the menu for navigation if necessary.

Hello, I am back and this time I have registered.

I always tries DVD (menu) but the DVD never begin with the first track. I have tried it with another DVD, it was King Arthur Director's Cut. It skip the language selection (where you choose wheareas you want the DVD menu in english, french ect.) and begin directly with the DVD menu. for other DVD it begins with the wrong track ect.

I am very sorry because i very like VLC, it is light, smooth and read anything except real and a unique AVI or MPG I could not read (sound but not image) but it was not very important and I delete this file. I would like very much to use VLC as DVD player. Not that I do not like Power DVD which I had a free copy with my DVD Drive, but VLC is lighter.

If anybody other has the same probleme and has fixe it, he can post here

I am not aware of a problem with AVI container in any standard combination of formats or MPEG-1 blank screen problems. This would suggest problems with your video card's drivers and DirectX and is another issue from the one you are describing.

I am aware of some Region releases (other than Region 1) having problems with menu add ons where the add on was done as a re-master of the original release. VLC will skip the add on and go straight to the original menu. As it does not do this for every title I only assume it is a problem with the add on. The only disks I am aware of that do not properly follow the chapter title sequence are some of the episodic compilation series. I can only assume that PowerDVD or WinDVD has corrected for the error in mastering these disks. But mastering or re-mastering is the problem as it appears there is a deviation from the original specification.

The EEC requires that part of the production take place within the EEC for distribution so to accommodate this law most companies re-master Region 1 disks in the country they are to be distributed in. The original mastering house provides the NTSC or PAL versions and original Menus. If the movie is popular and is missing languages or subtitles this is added in re-mastering in the country of distribution.

So DJ, you suggest me to continue using my Power DVD 5 ?
I have tried to use Media Player Classic but the mouse pointer does not match exactly with the menu when I am in full-screen mode so I have dismissed this option.

Yes! If you find this works well for you. I use WinDVD 6 for some things.

There is no such thing as a all in one solution for everything. We would only like to believe there is.
