Play All .MP4 file in Internet Folder

How would I setup VLC to play multiple or all video (.mp4) files in a given open directory online. I can get it to play one at a time using the open network link. I'm assuming I could manually create a playlist or download to my local machine and then play folder. Can you play folder if it is an internet folder or open directory?
