Impossible to open each video in playlist paused on 1st frame?

Is there a way to open a VLC playlist with multiple videos and each time I double-click a video in the playlist have it simply open its window but NOT automatically start playing?

In other words, I want to be the one to start playing each video that I open.

Something so simple, I can't figure out.

Kindly shed some light.
