Freezing on first frame of AV1 4k video

Hey guys,

I just got a new 4k monitor and was so excited to play a 4k clip to see what video looks like. I head to Chrome (Safari doesn't support 4k on YouTube) and it was pretty laggy. No problem, I thought. I'll download the video and play it in VLC!

After downloading the video with "4k Video downloader", I opened it in VLC (3.0.11) and it plays 1-2 frames then freezes on that frame as the audio continues. The video codec is AV1. I know my MacBook is capable of playing it just fine because after trying Firefox it works great there. I'd still like it to work in VLC though!

Any suggestions on what I should try?

I would assume so, seeing as it can play the same video in Firefox without any issues. It also seems strange that it literally plays one frame and then completely freezes. If it was just "slow" you would expect it to drop a lot of frames but would continue at a choppy pace.

Hi,
I am having exactly the same issue. I have captured from a Video8 camera and this works all well, however when trying to open and play the file, it freezes on the first frame.

I find it strange that you have not recieved any answers her, since I thought this was a well known issue.

Anyone in this forum who has any idea what we are doing wrong or what it is?

Firefox is playing the AV1 version too?
