3.0.10 seems to have broken UPNP

Postby OsixPegasus » 01 May 2020 04:54

I just recently upgraded to 3.0.10

Version 3.0.8 played media from my NAS via UPNP without a problem.

With 3.0.10 I am getting the following error snip from the DEBUG log...

Code: Select all

I am going to revert to 3.0.8 for the time being.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I have a linux machine and 3.0.9.2 on that seems to be doing the same thing.

Update.

UPNP is still broken exactly the same way in 3.0.11

Still working just fine after reverting to 3.0.8

Sorry for dredging up this old thread again but I managed to run some tests on version 3.0.8 verses 3.0.11 in debug mode and I found something very interesting.

First here is a snip from the debug log in 3.0.8.

Code: Select all

http debug: resolving 192.168.1.111 ... http debug: outgoing request: GET /web//mnt/HD_a2/MEDIA/MUSIC/ACDC/BigBalls.ogg HTTP/1.1 Host: 192.168.1.111:50843 Accept: */* Accept-Language: en_US User-Agent: VLC/3.0.8 LibVLC/3.0.8 Range: bytes=0-
This starts playing the music immediately from my NAS DLNA server and I get the following...

Code: Select all

http debug: incoming response: HTTP/1.1 206 partial content SERVER: Linux CONTENT-RANGE: bytes 0-2252999/2253000 CONTENT-TYPE: audio/ogg CONTENT-LENGTH: 2253000 contentFeatures.dlna.org: DLNA.ORG_OP=01;DLNA.ORG_CI=0
Now when I try the same file in 3.0.11 I get the following...

Code: Select all

http debug: resolving 192.168.1.111 ... http debug: outgoing request: GET /web/mnt/HD_a2/MEDIA/MUSIC/ACDC/BigBalls.ogg HTTP/1.1 Host: 192.168.1.111:50843 Accept: */* Accept-Language: en_US User-Agent: VLC/3.0.11 LibVLC/3.0.11 Range: bytes=0-
VLC then immediately flags an error and I get the following in debug...

Code: Select all

http debug: incoming response: HTTP/1.1 404 File Not Found access error: HTTP 404 error
Note carefully there is a difference in the GET statement.

Code: Select all

3.0.8 GET /web//mnt/HD_a2/MEDIA/MUSIC/ACDC/BigBalls.ogg HTTP/1.1 3.0.11 GET /web/mnt/HD_a2/MEDIA/MUSIC/ACDC/BigBalls.ogg HTTP/1.1
Note the extra slash after web.

If I can get the time I can open this as a regression issue in vlc bug tracking, but I am not exactly sure how to go about doing that.

Anyone have any (non-snarky UPNP is bad) advice?

Also yes I can hear the comments already about my choice of music. (Just get it out of your systems.)

You should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with the above report and the link to this thread:

Still broken in 3.0.12

I think it is time I just completely remove VLC from all of my systems.

For the longest time I have been doing everything I want to do with the following tools and I could not be happier...

Kodi
Audacity + Lame + ffmpeg

I just do not need a broken VLC any more.
