Xbox One error message "VLC is unable to open the MRL"

Postby DbDSE » 18 May 2020 06:38

Hi there,

I've added files yesterday to my external HDD and today when I tried to watch them it gave me this error saying "Your input can't be opened" along with the message in the title of this thread. It also says "Check the log for details" but I don't know where to find that.

Everything that was added before yesterday work fine though.

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks,

I have a similar issue. I had to reinstall Win 10 on my PC. I've followed all the Network instructions. Unloaded VLC on Xbox. Deleted Xbox in devices on my PC and reconnected. Both PC and Xbox are on the same lan using the same gateway. PC can ping Xbox. And test streaming in Xbox Console Companion on the PC reports all ok! But I still get the error message that Xbox VLC can't open/connect MRL/smb to my PC.

I'm getting the same MRL issue when I'm running VLC on an XBOX One, why it will recognize SMB shares from my Ubuntu 18.04.4 desktop no problem, but not from my Pi 3B+ running Ubuntu 20.04? The Pi is a fresh image, updated, and I've tried so far with fresh install of Samba, and also using the same smb.conf from my desktop. Actually, VLC app is having issues connecting to it from any other device while using the auto-populated name. The other devices (Android, iOS) are more versatile than the Xbox app, so I can get to the smb shares from the Pi via IP, but not by name. As far as I can tell, I haven't done anything different regarding the hostname change on the Pi from what I did previously that did work... and it's starting to drive me crazy figuring out what minor difference I'm overlooking. Any ideas? MRL resolve from IP maybe?
