Support for Windows arm64 / aarch64

Postby mirog » 22 May 2020 20:35

Hi,
Currently I use a very old Version from
https://people.videolan.org/~jb/Builds/ARM/vlc-4.0.0-dev-20180508-aarch64.zip
for my Surface Pro X with Windows arm64.
I have not found any information about future support for Windows arm64 in the forum.

So my question is - is there any support planed for Windows arm64 in the future ?
If not - who created this build under https://people.videolan.org/~jb/Builds/ARM/vlc-4.0.0-dev-20180508-aarch64.zip and could share, how he / she build this version ?

Many thanks
Miro

There is a VLC app in the Microsoft Store that seems to be made by VideoLAN here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/vlc/9nblggh4vvnh?activetab=pivot:overviewtab. Works fairly well, most features seem to be present, and it seems nicely polished. One key feature missing for me with that version is that the speed up/down shortcuts don't work. Hope that helps.

Hi,
Thanks - I have seen this Release already - but is seems not to support ARM64 - only ARM32 - in the system requirements you find "ARM, x64, x86"
Therefore I still search for the possibility to make my own recent 4.x build of arm64

If somebody is interested - i found now an info, how this build was created at https://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2018-May/123457.html

"the app that was demonstrated was actually built
with Clang and LLD with mingw-w64 as SDK (and there had been quite a few
minor fixes throughout the codebase to make it all build both with
clang/libc++ for windows, and for windows on non x86 targets)."

This is a UWP app. Like most people I prefer to use the more fully featured Win32 app.

I'm a fan of UWP but for media playback I don't think it offers an optimal user experience.

When is another build going to be posted to the VLC website or better yet an official build?

The build on website is from May 2018 and is a Nightly v4.x when the official release is still v3.x. It's over 2 years old :-/

Thanks
