Compressed videos getting rotation ~30 degrees

I'm trying to use VLC (v3.0.10) to convert a couple of videos (taken on Android phone) using the "Video for Youtube SD" profile setting. The output videos are rotated 30-40 degrees counter-clockwise. Why is this, and what should I do to fix it?

Check Tools -> Effects and Filters -> Video Effects -> Geometry -> Rotate

Thanks. I did check, and no rotation effect is selected. To clarify somewhat: 1) all other videos play in VLC without rotation, and 2) the videos converted by VLC are rotated even when played in other players (the thumbnail for the file is even rotated.
