Any one else out their looking for a VLC app for your Samsung TV
I got my Samgung 3D LED tv about 5 Months ago. Samsung has an integrated app store for the Set. Apps such as Netflix, Blockbuster, weather, all types of widgets basically.
Even a media player that will scout your network for media..
The Problem however is the random formats of video that we all have.. The Integrated codec is ... (lacking). Ive found it necessary to install tversity media server.
been looking forward to posting this for the last 3 months...
In short this is a beg for feature, i come from a development background and would be willing to contribute what i can.

VLC, DVD, PS3 and Samsung TV...bridge the gap

Ok, I'm looking for a solution where VLC has worked great on my PC being able to play every type of video file I've thrown at it.
Usually, I use DVDFab to copy DVD's to a portable USB HDD. It will copy the DVD uncompressed into the typical "Audio_TS" and "Video_TS" DVD folder structure. VLC is one of the few media players that will actually let me playback these files on my HDDs using the "Open Folder" feature. The thing is, I don't watch movies on my PC. So what I usually do is later copy these movies to a DVD-RW and use my DVD player to play them back. So, I was thinking..."Wouldn't it be wonderful if I didn't have to copy to a DVD and just playback directly from the portable HDD on which they reside?"
So I got a new Samsung LED HDTV which has USB ports and has app support and a built in Media Player. My problem is that this built in Media Player doesn't playback the DVD folders like VLC can do. So I thought....wouldn't it be great if there was a VLC app that could be installed on the Samsung TV?? Damn...doesn't exist. So then I thought....I have a PS3, which is connected to the Samsung TV via HDMI, wouldn't it be great if I could install VLC on to the PS3?? So after doing a lot of reading and finding I have to install an OS on my PS3 and my PS3 has been updated to the latest firmware....this seems like a complicated task and most likely not possible, but it sure would be awesome if I could just install VLC on to the PS3, plug in the USB HDD and starting playing the files.
So then I did some more reading where I found I could stream media from my PC to the PS3, since my PS3 is connected to my home network along with my PC. I'm just wondering if I can use VLC on my PC to do this since VLC is capable of playing back the media files, and wondering if I would lose a lot of video quality since I'ld be streaming wirelessly?
So what is my best solution? I have a Samsung TV with app support, a PS3, a PC with VLC on it and they're all connected to my home network and have access to the internet. The end goal is to be able to watch my copied DVD files on my USB HDD on the Samsung TV without losing any video/audio quality. I don't want to convert these files to divx...etc, because frankly that takes much longer than if I just burned it to a DVD-R and I'm trying to maintain the original quality of the video so that it looks/sound best on my home entertainment system.
I would love a VLC Media player that could be installed on my Samsung TV or PS3.
