UNABLE TO OPEN MRL

Postby debcal » 24 Feb 2020 18:23

Hi

I know this has been discussed multiple times on this forum and even other forums. It appears it to be a standard VLC problem. However the forum posts I've read (this forum and others) and YouTube clips I've watched have not solved the problem for me. So here's what I've tried:-
1) I have deactivated my firewall and anti-virus
2) I have given VLC permission through my firewall and anti-virus
3) my file name is less than 256 characters. I renamed it to contain only alphabet characters.
4) The file is NOT on another network, external hard drive or being streamed from the internet. It is a local file that I created from a video editing package.
5) I have full administrator rights and permissions of the file.
6) I can watch the file using VLC BUT I cannot convert the file ("unable to open the MRL" error message)
7) I have tried the VLC nightly version

The VLC log details are as follows:-

Any ideas on how I can overcome the dreaded "VLC is unable to open the MRL...." error?
Just a suggestion - Seeing as this error message appears to occur quite regularly, would it not be advisable to have a sticky post with the causes and remedies? (Sorry if there is one, I didn't see it)
Sincerely
