MAC installation problem

I still cannot update VLC player to Version 3.0.8. on a MacPro with OS 10.11.7 operating system. It downloads OK, but when I try to open .dmg disk, I get an answer "no mountable file systems". Any advice, please.

Where did you download VLC from?

Make sure you download from videolan.org only, and you can use the hash sum on the download side to cross check that the file you downloaded is not corrupted.
