VLC for Android 3.2.3 is bloating system with thumbnails

Postby arve » 04 Dec 2019 20:58

Subj.
New Android version have some new features that, while being realised, are bloating system with files that clearly doesn't even needed in the first place.
Please see reddit post for details and snaps, but if you, who are reading this post, created this I bet you know what I'm talking about. https://www.reddit.com/r/VLC/comments/e64oor/vlc_for_android_323_system_bloated_with_thumbnails

@Dekans the issue I'm having is still there after the latest beta update. I do realise, that this probably meant to be a feature, not a bug, but still - creating a thumbnail for every media file processed by VLC seems like an overkill and totally unnecessary imo. And in system memory?
If devs not going to change this to what I understand was before - no thumbs, covers that already exist used as covers in the album list, - maybe its possible to change its behaviour? Limit the thumbs creation to one thumb per audio folder? One per audio album, assuming VLC will read the tags? Or, the easiest - add an option to move the data directory which contains thumbnails to the external memory?
I could delete that chunk of thumbs, but I still would like to see the album art im my audio list. And every time I need to update my media library, here we go - thumbs are created again.
Here's my screencap video of how what it looks like now, just in case https://youtu.be/IfxJohWaeGw

I have this issue also. I have a 512GB external SD Card with LOTS of music and I don't see a way to more the thumbnails to the SD Card. My internal drive is filling up because of these thumbnails. How can we move them. Most android apps allow you to move all data to the SD Card.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

This will be fixed in v3.3, we cannot backport it to 3.2 unfortunately.
