VLC: Android: Audio: how to "selectively disregard" some files?

Postby Steamywee » 20 Jan 2020 00:50

Once installed, VLC (Audio) "harvests" anything which makes a noise!
...Fine, but being a simple bugger, I don't have playlists, I normally just switch it on, select "Shuffle" and "Play" and I'm happy!
That used to be the case with Samsung's Music player and with this Huawei phone's native player, I could go through the list of tracks/files and put a check mark against "Sound Effects", "Ringtones", "Audio Books", "Recordings of Auntie Mary Farting" etc. in the full and certain knowledge that they remain on my phone, but are disregarded under normal "Play" conditions.

I have searched on numerous occasions for such a feature in VLC "Audio" but have failed so far to find it.
I cannot believe that this "Swiss Army Knife" of Players does not have such a feature!

...Can someone please guide me to it?

put a .nomedia file in folders you want to ignore from medialibrary.

You will still be able to browse them in files browser.

Thanks for that advice Dekans, but I have no idea how to achieve that can you explain?
I'm finding that Huawei seem to do most things differently, just finding where it has squirrelled away my music has been a journey in itself!

In your file manager settings make sure "Show hidden files" is enabled.
Then search for a file named ".nomedia" (without quotes) and copy it to the folder(s) you want to ignore. Or directly create a ".nomedia" file if your file manager allows you to do it.

Too scared, the file system on this Huawei phone is confusing.
I recon I'll have to just put up with it or maybe create a playlist of all "Musical" audio files.
Thanks for trying to help.
...I have to say though, @Jean-Baptiste Kempf, I'm really surprised there is no simple way to filter out the Non Music Audio files as this must be something most folks have to deal with, as proven by other players including such a facility.
I'm also still unsure if Huawei are still "persona non grata".
