Scrubbing lock up

I am trying to play some mkv video on my iPad 2018 just upgraded to IOS 13. Finally I can access files from external storage, works like a charm with my Samsung T5 SSD! But [it’s always something] when I try scrubbing beyond a certain point, VLC locks up. I have tried it with 2 movies and gotten the same result. Note that I haven’t yet watched a full movie and proceeded beyond that point without scrubbing but I assume that it will play the whole movie ok.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Is there a fix?

I have experienced this issue while playing FLAC files after the new update. You scrub forward, the track stops, cannot be started back up again. Indeed the music itself cannot be started back up again unless you forward to the next track.
I know change is never welcome, and I also recognize app is free, and I appreciate hard work of good folks to make VLC possible, but that having been said, I truly, truly, truly miss the old player. The new one has been a frustrating experience right from the jump.
