Network stream issue with tvOS

Postby sscywong » 20 Sep 2019 04:09

I'm streaming H.264 signal using .ts format at home. However when I'm using VLC for Apple TV to watch the .ts stream, it always experience jittering, motion stopped but sound continues, or even both picture and sound stopped like data transmission was interrupted. I need to quit the stream and restart it and it will continues to play nicely. Sometimes I can have it play nicely for two hours, but sometimes I can't have it play for even two minutes. I've tried to set the buffering to max but it doesn't help

I've also tried using VLC on my iPad, putting it right next to my Apple TV using the same WiFi network, and video stream on iPad played nicely and fine. I've also tried other video app as well as using app to test the bandwidth and connection of my Apple TV, all are fine. Problem only happens with VLC.

Anyone can help? Thanks.

Hi sscywong,
Were you able to resolve this issue? I am also experiencing lagging when using on tvOS only. The built-in media player plays the test video fine, as well as the Mac using VLC. But not VLC on tvOS. Unfortunately, the built-in media player is not useful for our needs, since we need to play UDP videos on tvOS.

After upgrading to tvOS 13, VLC on Apple TV works as smooth as VLC on my iPad now... Don't know why but I've test this out for few days and works fine now... You may give it a try
