VLC from command line won't exitI

I'm trying to rip the audio from Elephant Revival's Sands of Time DVD (yes, they provide mp3's, I want flacs...). It creates the .wav file but then either sits there (if I'm using a dvd:// URL) or repeats itself on the same track though it only writes the data out the first time (if I'm using a dvdsimple:// URL). Doesn't seem to matter if I used `/dev/disk7` or `/dev/rdisk7`. I've also tried `#2`, `#2.1` and `#2.1-2.1` for the track.

Help?

Mac OS 10.13.6, VLC 3.0.6 and 3.0.8.

I've reset all of the preferences in the GUI.

Probably user error, but I can't see where....
