Audio Problems--Popping sound

I recently reformatted my computer and upon reinstall it appears that I lost my DVD decoder. I downloaded VLC and the video is running smooth but the audio is popping. I have no idea what to do. Thanks.

Try the changing the float32 option in Miscellaneous, Preferences, Audio, Output Modules, DirectX and save. Restart VLC and try again.

I have the exact same problem (and it only occurs on DVDs) but I can't find the audio option you mentioned.

You can also try Wave audio output module.

I didn't see the Misc section, but I was able to access it straight from Settings, Preferences, etc. I tried changing the float32 option in both the Direct X settings and Wave Out. Neither solved the problem. Any other ideas?

It was the float32 in DirectX that I was referring to. Sorry!

My first reaction considering this worked before reinstalling your operating system, was that you had a more recent set of audio drivers before the change. Perhaps a Microsoft update for your card.

You could also try (from within VLC) using the simple DVD interface. This plays the movie without menus.

You can also try playing just 1 vob file off the disk and see what happens.

Its wierd. When I say reformat I mean I restored the pc to its factory settings. It is a 4 month old Dell, so I don't know what's up. I can just call them I just haven't gotten around to it. For some reason if I try using Windows Media Player I can play video but no sound.

I am actually having the same problem with my iTunes now. I have no idea where this is all coming from, some audio decoder?

WMP uses Direct Show filters to play files and it sounds like you may be missing some. But VLC uses its own libraries to play files and that still leaves you with a problem. Just because its a 4 month old DELL doesn't rule out driver problems or that you could have gotten up dates from DELL or Microsoft. I know that reloading disks that came with my machine was all together different than when I opened the box. Most manufactures load operating systems from a server that is constantly being updated. So your machine is really newer than the backup disks.

Well like I said Windows media player's problem is no sound at all while iTunes and VLC are having the same interference popping sound. My computer didn't come w/ restore disks, it is a built in function, so I unless those files are out of date that scenario you described seems unlikely. I'll call tomorrow after work.
