Spatializer needs to be toggled to get Narrator.

In order to hear the narrator in an ogv movie I have to turn the spatializer on. This wouldn't be so bad but I have to toggle the spatializer off and on again every time the narrator leaves and returns again. This is annoying. I've tried this in VLC 2.26 and 3.0.7. Is there something in my audio set up I can change? How about setting the spatializer on/off to a hot key? Thanks
