OS X 10.3.2, PowerMac G4 Quicksilver 867. I tried 0.7.1, and now the preferences are correct. However, my SVCD still comes up with the error:

vcd: could not read sector 356
ps: cannot peek()
vcd: could not read block 356

There is another, commercial SVCD player which plays this without trouble. MacVCD, in fact.

VLC version 0.7.1 and 0.7.1a seem to Unexpectedly Quit on launch. I have Mac OS X 10.1.5 on my iMac 400DV. I delete the preference resources and it still doesn't work. I still have to use 0.7.0.

Can anyone give me an answer to why this happens?

VLC is great, I use it with my external DVD drive which Apple DVD player doesn't even load up on any non-Internal-DVD macs. Just need to make VLC slightly faster at processing to get a better frame rate (PC's seem to do it better but Macs are supposed to be graphics orientated, maybe the new 0.7.1(a) might be faster for me but I dont know). I also suggest a Darwin Interface so that VLC can be loaded up in .console (it might make it faster).

Anyway, an answer to why 0.7.1(and a) Unexpectedly quits would be of great help. Thank you.

Daniel

There is still the bug with Video-Output with S3 Graphic Chip (in my case twister). VLC 0.6.2 works great but since 0.7.0 i have this bug.

ASCII Colour Art

Just upgraded to v 1.7.1. Now everything plays as ASCII colour art. The screen is full of ascii characters in colour and in motion. I recall when this sort of art display was all the rage some thirty years ago but it doesn't work for today. Going back to v 1.7.0 until this gets fixed.

This just means you activated the caca (Color AsCii Art) video output plugin. Just reset your VLC preferences and you should get the DirectX video output back.

Can't play VCDs in OS X 10.3.2

Postby guest » 04 Apr 2004 18:59

I, too, am having problems playing VCDs in Panther.

Is there a Mac user who has had success playing VCDs with the current version (or any version) with VLC on their Mac?

VLC v0.4.4 seems to read the VCD just fine, but v0.7.1a won't read it at all...
