Best encoding for screen capture

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Best encoding for screen capture

Postby CadErik » 13 Jan 2006 18:19

I plan to use VLC to stream a presentation (screen capture + sound). I tried almost every video format but I can't figure out how to increase the "quality" and details of the picture. The streamed output in all the codecs I tried have quite a bit of encoding artifacts here and there. And for streaming the presentation, I need a low frame rate but good details on the screen. Is there any setting somewhere for the details and quality in the transcode module?

Thanks,

Erik.

ffmpeg just added support for TSCC, a lossless codec for screen captures. Maybe you could use this format? I don't know if it's supported in VLC yet tho (wasn't in 0.8.4).
