update 3.0.7 flashing green and purple

Postby imwig2689 » 10 Jun 2019 13:45

I downloaded newest version this morning. 3.0.7 on Windows 10 system. Have used VLC for 6-10 years with no problems. Playing my previous downloaded vids screen flashes green and purple and there is a black line in middle of screen-like when Televisions used to "roll". Tried a dozen vids and all did the same thing. The images are there, but changing colors. I downloaded the update again with same results. I restarted my computer and still had the same problem

I am having the same problem exactly. Up until today, VLC has worked flawlessly on a variety of computers.

Windows 10. Version 10.0.18362 Build 18362
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6450
Driver: 15.201.1151.1008-151104a-296217E

Same here - 3.0.6 works fine, 3.0.7 has shifted the video up, the top has rolled over and is being shown at the bottom and on purple & green. I've fully installed 3.0.7 and reinstalled 3.0.6 and it works normally. I have screenshots if required, just let me know how to post them

Experiencing same problem green flickering upper 2/3 of screen, purple bottom 1/3 of screen. Windows 10, HP Pavilion, AMD Video Driver 15.200.1045.0, Radeon 7450 video board. Video driver is up to date. Renderer to chromecast without a problem. Update 3.0.7 appearently is not compatible with video driver or video board. Revert back to version 3.0.6 and VLC works fine. Hopefully the next update will resolve this problem. Hopefully someone from VLC will read this post and fix the problem. In addition, I wish VLC.ORG will fix the problem with the inability to cast subtitles to chromecast.

Yes: Preferences, Input/Codecs, change Hardware-accelerated decoding to DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) 2.0

Hi, it will be quickly fixed by a small update, no need to disable hardware decoding.

Sorry to contact you but I am a novice on these forums and a bit of a IT one as well, but to sort the issue with the green / purple screen so I just wait and a update will be automatic or am I best to reinstall 3.06?

Thanks

Hi, you can download the new release here: https://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.7.1/win64/vlc-3.0.7.1-win64.exe or use the updater in the application. The 3.0.7.1 release should fix the corruption issue on some driver from the 3.0.7 release.

Can you post the logs so that we check the driver, you can upload it to pastebin or drive ?
To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

Windows 10 Home, version 1809 Build 17763.557
processor: AMD A4-5000, 1.5GHz, APU with Radeon HD 8330 Graphics, Driver version 21.19.137.514

VLC 3.0.7.1

After installing update, which was supposed to address security issues in AMD machines, video height was reduced, flashing green bar across the screen on lower third of video.

To fix the green bar at bottom problem in 3.0.7, I see the following instructions all over: “Tools -> Settings -> Input / Codec -> Hardware accelerated decoding = disable and the green flickering should be eliminated”. BUT, there’s no such setting in Preferences!

Also, version 3.0.7.1 doesn't fix the problem either.

All .mkv and .mp4 videos have this problem.

.avi plays fine.

So, where's the videolan team on this :-?

This was a little different but worked for me.
At the top of the screen I clicked the following:
Tools
Preferences
Input / Codecs
Hardware-accelerated decoding
And I chose "disable" from the dropdown

I opened my file again and VOILA! No green
Hope that helps

Hey ceese ^^,

VOILA! for sure ... worked for me too.

I was looking at Preferences with "All" settings" turned on. "Hardware-accelerated decoding" doesn't show up there as it does under "Simple" settings. Haha.

Thx, Max ^_~

I'll believe that when I see it. This flickering green playback has been happening to me for years off & on and nobody cares enough to fix it so far. It seems to me the devs lost interest long ago.

It's irrelevant to the container format but would depend on the codec and pixel format of the file instead. The bias behind is that you don't usually find newer codecs in older formats. Likely, your mkv/mp4 files are using h265 or h264 video encoding and your avi files something else.

We can't fixed it without logs and information about your hardware, it's a hardware specific issue and we don't neither own nor maintain tests for every serie of hardware with every version of driver. We do maintain blacklist for behaviour unsupported by bad graphic drivers and hardware.

Disabling hardware decoding works, but it would raise other performance issues with higher quality/size files. It's better to fix the initial issue :)
