Problem connecting to FTP/SMB from Apple TV

Postby wULteky » 02 Jun 2019 09:14

My network has to routers:
One with the FTP/SMB server with movies the address range is 10.0.0.1 and up. The FTP/SMB server is at 10.0.0.20
The other router is connected to this router. This router has the Apple TV and VLC. Address range 192.168.1.1 and up

Code: Select all

|--FTP/SMB server(10.0.0.20) ----R1(10.0.0.1)-| |--R2---AppleTV w/VLC (192.168.1.40)
When I started using the system it worked as expected. The next day it did not work.
Eventually I noticed that if I tried to connect to the FTP/SMB server from a windows PC (mount the SMB) from R2 the AppleTV and VLC would work again for a limited time.

Has anyone had similar problems? Any fixes?

Similar problem -- I’m using a Mac mini, Mojave, and an external media drive (where my movies are kept). VLC on my Mac is up-to—date. I’m also using Apple TV for streaming.

I’d set up VLC before, but then I had to replace my hard drive, and since then, I can’t figure out how to get VLC to stream to my TV — every login, etc. I try, I get a message saying the Media is empty.

Would someone please give me EASY TO FOLLOW instructions for setting up VLC on my Apple TV4 so that I can stream movies from my external drive?

Thank you very much.

I also have an iPad with VLC. Empty media, connects to the world via an access point connected to a router.
