Bigtime Bug- Auto plays audio in bg w/o app to switch to??

Postby swtpete » 08 Apr 2019 06:57

:?:  Hi, how is everyone doing? <- that was not my question lol. .. Completely impossible to find my question answered online: Whenever I play an audio file in VLC, e.g. *.mp3 or *.gsm, the audio just plays, transparently, from the background, with no controls or app to switch to! Something I overrode in the default app settings, perhaps, at one time? There are tons of settings by the way - too many really. (How does one reset all options to default install?) Thank you so much and hopefully my question - this very post - will get crawled by Google and Bing and added to their search indices. Peace! Peter in San Diego CA USA.

Are these steps for the Android mobile phone version of VLC (VideoLAN?) ? And will that fix the background play problem I'm having? Thank you @chubinou

Hi Peter

I'm not 100% sure if this will fix your problem, but here are the steps to reset VLC to its default settings within the android app.

Open VLC and click on the main menu icon in the upper left corner of the homescreen. Scroll down and open Settings, then scroll all the way down to the bottom and open Advanced.

Now click on Clear media database, then click on Storage, and then click on Clear data and Clear cache. Here's a screenshot of that final step:

After you clear the data and the cache, VLC will restart and automatically reload your entire media library. All settings will return to their defaults.

Hope that does it for ya.

You may just have disabled the notification for the app. Check in your System settings > apps > VLC > notifications.

Can you verify which version of VLC you have installed? It was actually only fairly recently that Android Auto support was added to the app, and it behaved just as you described before the feature was added.
