vlc keeps reading metadata

vlc 3.0.13 on an LG Aristo running Android 7.0.

It seems every time I open/reopen vlc it has to read the metadata again - which takes a min or two but is annoying and shouldn't occur if I consider that it should save that information somewhere. I have a library of some 6,000 files on an SD card.

I was living with that except last night I was playing files from a particular artist and play would stop in mid-stride and it would read the metadata yet again unprompted by anything. Then when it finished I was back at the beginning of what I'd been listening to. Long podcast lectures and, as best I can tell, vlc for Android doesn't remember the last position for a particular track/file.

Settings > Auto rescan.

Yea me too. Keeps reading metadata, both on internal and SD, after it finished, won't show any videos instead.

How can we fix this?
