Seeking to the previous keyframe option?

Is there an option for the player to seek to the previous keyframe rather than the exact position when manually selecting a time spot to view on the time toolbar, like in 1.1.x versions (with MKV files)?

There never was such an option. Video coding is not suitable for decoding back-ward (except for specialized studio formats).

It's the default behaviour for vlc-1.1.x-win32 versions with MKV videos (while the video is playing, not paused), at least for me.

No, it is not. I joined the project at about version 0.7.0, and there never was a previous frame or key frame option since then.

Yes it is the default behaviour for MKV files, probably a bug, but not for me.
In fact, it has been helping me with lossless video trimming for quite some time now. (That's why I brought this question up.)
I suggest you to test it yourself with videos (while playing, not paused) in which the keyframes have 5-10 seconds between each other.

You uncheck the "precise seeking" option in preferences
