No atmos downconvert to true hd 7.1 ? [SOLVED]

Postby Rippmaster13 » 12 Mar 2019 22:09

Im watching 4k uhd mkvs with atmos tracks but get stereo and pcm (not dolby true hd or dts ma).

On my stereo it says pcm.

My avr cant handle atmos (avr from 2010) but ive read that atmos is backwards compatible and should fully downconverts to regular dolby true hd or dts ma.

My settings on reciever (pioneer vsx 923) "pure directp"

Settings in newest vlc update.

Wasapi. (Windows media output)
Disable resample
Audio codecs enable

what am i doing wrong? Plz plz help. I will give som kind of reward to the person that helps me get my avr to display not pcm but dolby true hd.

Ps.: could an old hdmi cable (not high speed) be the trouble?

You activated the option for HDMI passthrough in preferences?

Yes. But i solved it :) i had a really old hdmi cable. Swapped it and i get real dts ma and true hd now.

For others with similar probs. With no atmos reciever.

1. Do not setup 7.1 in windows. It should be stereo.
2. Do not enable atmos in windows.
3. Chek that u got newest type of hdmi cable

In vlc
4. Wasapi output
5. Disable resample
6. Check all codecs

The amp shoud be on "pure direct"
-start the reciever first so that the pc loads neccesary drivers.

In vlc
4. Wasapi output
5. Disable resample
6. Check all codecs
It should be by default, just activate the full passthrough in simple preference,

Yes but also make sure your avr is default soundplayer in windows too. For me it sometimes switches that audio to the motherboard output instead.

I ran into that problen yesterday at our movienight. Checked all vlc settings, ok. Checked windows sound output, that wasnt my avr.

Chosed my aver as sound in windows and dts mst started working again.
