Frozen first frame on certain mp4

Postby jkister » 24 Jul 2018 18:50

VLC 3.0.3 on win10/64 freezes on the first frame on video files that my security camera records, but audio is always working fine. These files seem working because WMP can play them on the same computer.

I downloaded several test MP4 videos and VLC plays them just fine.

Google told me about changing the output decoder to "avformat" instead of automatic. That makes VLC play my security camera files just fine but then i have to switch it back when I play other videos because other videos, like the MOV that come from iPhone, get stuck/garbled.

I uninstalled VLC and installed several previous versions back to 2.2.6 and none fixed the issue.

any advice on fixing this issue? thanks!

Disable hardware decoder in 3.0.3 preferences and try again.

If that works, give us the file :)

I disabled all hardware decoding (FFmpeg and output modules) but the Open GL/GLES hardare converter for Wimdows always resets to Automatic even when I choose Disable -> Save.

In either case, the behavior remains with the other hardware decoder options disabled -- before+after restarts. I have undid the disabling.

Sorry, but disabling ahrdware decoding needs only one change in simple preferences.

understood-- I reset all preferences, then disabled hardware decoding in simple preferences. still no difference, video is frozen on first frame but audio works.

https://kister.net/tmp/kitchen1.log
https://kister.net/tmp/kitchen1.mp4

of note, VLC only misbehaves when I load this from disk - somehow... my laptop has an Internal ssd as well as a external/usb3 sata hdd. loading the mp4 from either disk makes the weird behavior happen. when I open network stream (I was testing the mp4 from the link above), it plays just fine! more confused.

WMC plays from either the internal ssd or external.

This is fixed for VLC 3.0.4. Thanks for the report.

You can test in the nightly builds.

Hi,
I have the same identical issues. I tested versions 3.0.4.--->3.0.6, 64-bit.
Till yesterday I used v2.2.0 and it doesn't have the issue.

How/where can I produce/find the VLC log? (so to attach it)
