building VLC from source code

Postby Guest » 11 Jan 2006 13:29

Building VLC from source code,
I downloaded cygwin setup from the site,
http%3a%2f%2fmirror.calvin.edu%2fcygwin

I tried building VLC following the steps mentioned in,
http://developers.videolan.org/vlc/Cygw ... ntRevB.pdf

But while running the config file, I am getting a prompt as,
" need automake version 1.5 or later "

I am unable to figure this, is it due to some incomplete installation done or is it something else?

Please give some tips or suggestions!!!

When you run the Cygwin setup program there are options on components to
install. For compiler items, make sure that you select all of the things
starting "mingw", plus the "make" item. Do not select any C compilers other
than the ones shown in the Appendix to this document; if you select crosscompiler
components you can expect an error message about needing to specify
–-build –-host –-target.

when you install cygwin, compare with appendix, add make untility
