looking for Decent SF2

Postby IlanSh » 12 Feb 2019 05:57

In ordr to play MIDI files, I followed the procedure and used GeneralUser_GS_1.471SF2.
No offense, it sounds bad. My 30yo Gravis Ultrasound sounded better.

So... any recommendations for a decent SF2?

It really depends on your needs.
For general music playback I like to use Merlin 8MBGM Plus13 which is well balanced and should be good enough for any kind of music.

It doesn't seem to work. Maybe because it's sfArk file instead of sf2? I defined it as the SoundFont file, and VLC plays MIDIS... without any sound. I revert to the sf2 file and it works. What am I missing?

It's compressed with sfArk, you need to unpack it to get a SF2 SoundFont.

Looks like the original MelodyMachine site of the software is down, but I've uploaded it here:
