How To Display Album Art For Current Song Playing?

Does the newest version of VLC 2.0.1 still display album art when playing an MP3 (or other) file?
I cannot seem to find out how to do this.

Hm, I found an older posting from 2010:

At present, album art is displayed in the information panel only. This will change with VLC's forthcoming 1.2 release.

But, the current release is now 2.0.1 and I still see no album art.

Man, I've looked everywhere, the only way I can find to display the album art is to open the "Media Information" panel. Of course, that becomes hidden once you select another window/program to use, so the only way to see the album art is to keep VCL the active window with the "Media Information" panel open. What the hell??? There must be a way to display the Album Art as each song plays through the playlist, how on earth do you do this? All of my MP3s have album art already, I can see it in the "Media Information" panel, in the file icons, etc. Isn't this a basic feature of every music player?

Due to time constrains, this feature was skipped for VLC 2.0 (aka 1.2) in favor of getting it working at all. I didn't forget about it, but there used to be higher priority items on my to do list when finalizing the 2.0 release.

Ah, okay, no prob. Just wanted to know if I was going crazy not being able to figure out how to get it to work.

Any update on this issue? We're on VL 2.0.5 and I can't find a way to display album art in VLC on OSX.

Two years later we're on 2.1.5 now, and still album art does not display when playing songs... really sucks.

It would be nice to see: Album Art, Artist, Album, Song Title for the currently playing song.
You know, like ALL the other players do.

Still can't find a way to do this in 2.2.2 on OS X . I'm sure I used to be able to do this years ago, so the functionality must have been actively removed rather than not implemented yet!

It still hasn't been added back into the newer versions of VLC yet. If I knew how to do it, I would, but I don't, so we just have to wait. Hm, five years since my first inquiry. Guess I could have learnt to do coding in that time... Isn't there somebody out there willing to dedicate their coding skills to implementing this? Pleaaaase~!

All good. The issue is mainly that VLC does not support displaying album artwork the way the Windows version does. The Mac UI displays it in the Information panel only and no place else. We might match the Windows version in a future release.

So, after ALL these years only OSX users cannot see the album art? What the hell!! Why isn't this stated in the download area "Mac users do not see album art of current song." This would explain why I see so many people complaining about the wrong album art being displayed while I'm like, "Wrong art? I can't even get ANY art to display!"

Apologies if I'm being thick, since I find it hard to believe that such a basic thing would still be missing but I can't see any way on 3.0 to show ablum art except Media Information? Is this still the case?

I'm on 2.2.6 (macOS) and it looks like it is still not there. If I knew how to write a Visualization thing to show the art I would. I use Finder and VLC on a Mac mini connected to the TV for all video stuff and it's perfect. If I could see the album art I'd wrestle all of the music out of iTunes and use it for that too.

It's 2019 and I am on 3.0.6 and it STILL does not display album art. Only reason for ditching it for IINA.

Hmmm. Hadn't heard of IINA. Nice looking. Will give it a whirl. VLC has kinda turned into a stuttering mess on my systems. I know macOS controls the scheduling, and that Apple seems to have completely forgotten about giving user interface processes a high priority, but I get a lot of video pauses and the video going all grey until enough of the blocks of data fill in or the scene changes. It seems like it has been getting worse since whatever major VLC version came out around the time of Mavericks. Oh look...ABBA Gold album cover! Thanks!

This will be (finally) possible in VLC 4. The code is written, just other parts of the update are not ready yet.
