The search filed on apple TV not working

The search filed in VLC while accessing with SMB some shared folders on apple TV is not working, not accessible.
Not sure if the tvOS updates changed that, or if VLC update, but since the last two tvOS updates search is impossible.
apple tv 4 (no 4k) tvOS 12.1

I am having the same problem with the Search FIeld / Bar. You can't get into it.
