Stutter/lag when 3 or more instances on computer, but on old laptop it's fine

My computer is windows 10 and a laptop ive had since 2011 is windows 7 and both are on latest version of vlc.

Is there a certain setting that won't stutter or lag videos on VLC when you have multiple instances running at the same time? My computer, which is newer and a lot stronger than an old laptop I have has trouble playing more than 2 vlc videos at once, but the laptop can play even 4 videos at once with no stutters or lag.
