VLC crashes establishing network connections

iPad 6 WiFi running 11.3.1
VLC for mobile version 3.3

Every time I look up my local network, I can see my three NAS boxes fine (2 Netgear readynas, 1 Qnap). Every time I try to connect to any of them, either via their DLNA share or a direct SMB connection, VLC crashes (simply vanishes).

Do I need to make some random configuration setting first, or is this a bug specific to my setup.

I have experienced this before, too. It's one of two bugs I frequently (but not every time) experience when using the app
