Scheduled playback

Postby langdon.alan » 05 Oct 2018 15:04

Is there a way to schedule playback in VLC? A script or something that would automatically play a file when the system clock reaches a specific time, say, 8:00 am?
I need two mac computers to playback different videos, but they need to start at exactly the same time, for an art exhibition.

You can use the netsync module to achieve this as long as both Macs are on the same network. Alternatively, this should be feasible to do with AppleScript, but chances are this will never be picture perfectly in sync (which the netsync module can do).

I use a free program called Scheduler for Mac. You can create events to do whatever... so you can tell it to start up a playlist (m3u file) and tell it to use VLC as the default application, while setting the time and date you want the event to start. It is simply perfect for such a task.
