Trying to play .rec_part1 file from TV USB recording

Hi, I'm trying to play a file recorded on a USB drive by a Toshiba TV (24w1633). When VLC opens the file the screen is blank and there is no audio. The Codec information is shown as - Stream 0 - MPEG-1/2 Video, Stream 1 - MPEG Audio layer 1/2, Stream 2 - Description is ISO/IEC 13818-6 Type B. The file is named <datestamp>.rec_part1 and there is also a .rec.ifo and .rec.meta file. The file is a good recording - it plays back on the TV and the TV can play other .mp4 files on the USB drive. Has anyone played these recordings already?
