2.2.8 better than 3.0.4

Postby Flexman » 26 Sep 2018 01:31

On a brand new computer I installted VLC and used the latest version of course. However, it turned out that 3.0.4 already gets stuck for a few seconds if you open it. Also it was not able to display the video, since there was audio but no video.
Tried both the 64bit and 32bit version. After a downgrade to 2.2.8 (64bit) everything works fine.

Video Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (h264)
Decodiertes Format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV
Audio Codec: A52 Audio (aka AC3) (a52 )

Yep indeed, the "gets stuck for a few seconds if/when you open it" struck me as well with v3.0.4 (_x32, on Win10-Home_x64)...

I was thinking of reverting as well to some previous Version, even if I didn't think to go back that far to v2.2.8 but it's nice to know that this Version works "a bit correctly"...
I updated about 3 months ago to the current Version at that time (after having withstood "A new Update is available, please update..." for more than 1 year), I didn't really-really like that Version (and I don't know which Version I had before), many Icons had changed, I'm only starting after 3 months to get a bit used to the "new" ones, and High Quality '.wav' Files would sound very "saturated", so I updated again recently, to v3.0.4 now, but this Version looks pretty buggy and unstable to me...

I tried to report 2 Bugs about the (Undocked) 'Fullscreen Controller', Functionality that I need and which is broken in v3.0.4, no Reply... :o
From reading a few Threads on the Forum, I went playing with a few other "areas", I find Bugs nearly everywhere (that I won't bother to report if the first 2 ones don't even get any Feedback..., never thought it was possible to crash VLC in less than 1 Sec, oops...!, I discovered a few cool Features I didn't know though, but I guess they were probably already there in some previous Versions), so I'll simply be going back to some previous more stable Version, and maybe v2.2.8 then... Thanks @OP...

Thanks to support in the #videolan IRC-channel we solved the issue!
It's not the fault of VLC, it's a bug concerning the drivers for the RX Vega Graphics:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/20213

Installing the latest drivers solved the issue, 3.0.4 now is working fine.
Thank you!
