How to use Shares

Postby Laiderdaiv » 31 Jul 2018 18:16

I setup sharing and networking on my laptop but it's not available in the VLC app. It says I can email a link: (file://LAPTOP-67QFEQKV/courses) but everywhere I type that in the app it doesn't work. I don't understand the significance of what SMB version, workgroup, protocol...This is all foreign language to me...

VLC SMB has stopped working for me, so I'd love to help you understand the Jargon, but what used to work, (and still works in other apps that use SMB) does not work in VLC anymore in the recent updates.

Hi,

Are you using Windows 10? If so you need to enable SMB1 for it to work with VLC-iOS.

Hi,

I just installed VLC Player 3.1.1 (309) on my iPhone (iOS 11.4.1).
Connecting to an SMB share is not working. I'm not getting any response - just the "wait screen" with the rotating wheel ...
Connecting with other apps works fine

Any hints? I assume its a bug ...

Best regards,
T.

I updated my iOS VLC recently and had the same issue. The app can discover my SMB server, but its attempts to connect as admin or guest always fails. The other video player apps I have can still connect.

Usually this is because your smb share uses SMBv2.
For now, we only support SMBv1 on VLC-iOS.
