VLC seems broken in latest release for xbox/Windows store

Postby cr2016 » 23 Jun 2018 05:22

VLC version is 3.0.3.70:

Anytime a video is played, after about 2 or so minutes, the video drops out while the sound continues to play. Also, when attempting to seek manually, the GUI goes to hide from view after about 10 seconds or so. I think both of these may be related to the recent change to the behavior of the GUI described in thread https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=141866.

VLC is now unusable on xbox--Is there any way to revert to the previous version? I have tried reinstalling via the store and the only version available is the latest.

I'm gonna need your file to be able to fix that. Can you share it please?

This has been fixed recently.

Afraid not. You will have to wait for the next release, which should be soon.

Thank you for the quick reply. The video drop out happens on any file I play. Files play normally for about a minute or two, and then the video goes to black while the sound continues playing. It's almost as if the display stream is treated like a UI element that becomes hidden. This problem only started after updating to 3.0.3.70.
I have tried changing settings that I would suspect might have an influence on this, such as app borders, play video in background, with no success.
I'm surprised no one else has encountered this issue.

Since this happens on ANY file that is played, I could attempt to take a video of the behavior as it happens if that would help you in any way.

I suppose this also demonstrates a bad flaw of the "store" models of software delivery, such as the MS or Apple app stores, since it is impossible to revert to an earlier version if something breaks.

Once again thank you for your help and attention, and for the VLC product.

Can you share your Xbox model (S, X..) and OS version please?

I agree, a downgrade button would definitely be useful for users ;-)

Updated to latest version of xbox one S OS, and VLC 3.1.0
Issue still occurs--after about 45 seconds - 1 minute, video (display) goes completely black while audio continues. Stopping the video (and thus returning to the VLC main menu) makes the display visible again.
Nothing like this occurs with other media players I have tried or with MS xbox apps such as blu ray player or media player

I still can’t select settings or search, the system seems to be stuck in “about the app” when clicking on the pop-up menu in the right bottom corner...version 3.1.0.70, this problem persists since the previous version, uninstalling/reinstalling doesn’t help.

I cannot reproduce, but please don't reuse existing unrelated threads, create your own otherwise processing those makes it hard for me.

I also cannot reproduce... let it run 10mins and everything plays fine... Not sure how to help (and weird that you're alone reporting that issue)

Cannot repro. What's your Xbox model and OS version?

At least someone else is now reporting the loss of video. I have tried a number of things to see if it helped (forcing xbox one S to display 1080 instead of 4k, messing with the various 4k display options such as HDR) with no success. After about 10 seconds - a few minutes VLC simply drops the entire video element and the display goes to black while the audio continues to play. Stopping playback causes the display to come back on once the VLC UI is called. I don't know how useful it would be to the developers, but I can take a recording of this happening if desired--just let me know.

Just an update on this--after the October Xbox One S system update, the problem still persists.

I have recently purchased XBOX ONE X and installed the VLC player. After it plays the first file, it is not able to render any other file. Some files video is missing and for some files audio is missing and it slows down the whole system within 2 to 3 minutes.
