Subtitles are center justified when justification set to left or right

Postby barkdoll » 22 Jul 2018 19:27

So I posted about this in trac (bug report site), but it has been weeks and I received no response. I figured maybe it would be found here, and I haven't seen any previous posts about this issue. The issue was tested on the latest nightlies as well.

The problem: VLC is no longer properly justifying subtitles (SRT) when they are set to be positioned left or right within the player. Instead, it positions them to the left or right, but still keeps them justified center.

Here is an image demonstrating the problem:

The justification settings worked flawlessly in 2.x builds, but after upgrading to a 3.x build, I noticed this.

Here is a link to my trac issue for reference.

Additional info:
  • I am running Windows x64, but I don't believe this is a Windows-only issue. It could easily persist on another OS.
  • I tested both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of VLC and got the same result.

Please upload a short sample of a problematic file to either Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

Please share your .srt.

But I'm afraid the rendering of VLC 3.0.x is expected (cf VTT rendering).

I can share samples if you like, but it may not be necessary. I say this because I am not referring to a special case for certain *.srt or video files. The same result occurs with ANY and ALL video and subtitle files opened in VLC. Subtitles are center justified as in the picture above. They are just positioned in the bottom left corner. If they were properly justified like in v2.x, the "Y" in "You" would be vertically aligned with the "w" in "what" to create a proper left-aligned justification.
