Where do I change the installed language?

Postby MaZ » 05 Dec 2005 16:09

I have just installed VLC on my new computer, it has always worked very well before but this time it decided I wanted a Swedish installation. Why?
I live in Sweden but I hate Swedish interfaced programs and I'm not accepting a Swedish VLC. I can't understand why it installed as a Swedish version, I don't have a single Swedish program on this computer and all the other computers have English VLCs... :?

Please don't tell me this is a new "intelligent feature" because it sucks!
This is the same thing as Hotmail speaking italian whenever I'm in italy, why the f**k does hotmail think everybody speaks the language in the country they're in?

Thanks

It's in the preferences / interface / general.

On a side note, if you want your program to speak English tell your OS that you want English. I don't know how it work on windows. Maybe in the regionnal settings or something like that. Because smart software asks the OS and in your case the OS answered " MaZ likes Swedish" and obiously it was wrong.

Inställningar -> Egenskaper -> Interface -> General.
Click "Avancerade Inställningar"
Change "Språk" to "Amerikansk Engelska" or "Brittisk Engelska", whateber you fancy ;)
Press "Spara" and you're done, restart VLC.

Thanks alot. Your tip helped me as well.

I had a similar problem due to
english keyboard -> english keyboard settings
using japanese applications -> non-unicode setting on japanese
needing euro sign and some other stuff in german format -> rest of regional settings on german

Freaked VLC out, showing menues in a german/japanese mix and actually NOT showing about 75% of the elements

I tried the (empty non-descript) drop down menu at the point you described, and voila us english ^^

Isn't it annoying how we swedes can't find our way around a swedish interface? I hate it too... I used this info to change back to english. Tx!

Thanks. I had been living with a blank interface for the last year on my Japanese keyboard with English language settings. Now works great. Bit dificult finding the settings at first though.
