Just to clarify, Hardware Acceleration is not in VLC 303 Preferences. There used to be such a button in earlier VLC, called "Overlay", but I don't see it anymore. There is also Hardware Acceleration in PC setting that you can access through Display Properties-->Troubleshoot. My old video card has no button "Troubleshoot" in Monitor Adapter window, so this can't be changed.
I am running VLC 303 under Kodi, in Win 10, for old shows and movies on 720p TV. Don't care about 4K or 8K - don't even know what they are. Old video card was playing fine with previous versions of VLC, then suddenly a problem with VLC 303. VIdeo doesn't open - but sounds is playing - until I click on VLC tray icon at the bottom of PC screen. Have checked everything in Preferences, including "video always on top". On newer Win 10 machine - that I use for work, not for movies - VLC 303 runs fine. So... while admitting the very old age of my machine, I confirm that VLC 303 has some issues.
