VLC Media Player 3.0.3 Adjustments Issue

I have just "upgraded" to VLC 3.0.3 and have discovered it has changed how I view "Type" in Widows Explorer ...
.
All I now get is ... "VLC media file" .... and NO identification of what the real Type of file this is !!!! i.e. "Mp4" or "avi" etc This info is listed in "Properties" "General" but this is not the purpose - VLC now demands I click on EVERY file listed for me to discover what "Type" of file is hidden behind this new "VLC media file" !!!!

The ONLY way for this to change is for me to undefault VLC as my media player ....

In windows 7 control pannel (it's the same in lower versions, don't know for earlier):
In folder properties uncheck "hide extensions whose type is known" (roughly translate from french sorry).
