I am very new to VLC Media Player as I am trying to help out an even less knowledgeable (if that is possible) user.
I have been playing around with playlists. My first test playlist saved as a m3u file whereas the second playlist saved as a xspf file.
Can someone give me a simple explanation?

You can choose the format in the save dialog.
