Rapid audio cut-out in VLC, only, post-1803

Postby silentknyght » 01 Jun 2018 13:48

I'm running the 64-bit version of 3.0.3, just freshly installed as of moments ago. Seemingly at random (but always fixed by a reboot), when playing a file (mkv, audio file, etc.) in VLC, the audio will cut-out (i.e., just "turn off") about every second for a fraction of a second. The same (audio) file shows no issue when played in something like Foobar2000 (v1.3.17) or Windows Media Player. Therefore, the issue seemingly MUST be with VLC, but I can't figure out how to fix it. Rebooting the computer does fix the problem, but I'd like a more permanent solution. Any help would be appreciated.

If you use HDMI or S/PDIF, try disabling pass-through.

Using neither.

Change audio output to DirectSound.

Change audio output to DirectSound.
There is no "DirectSound" option. Changing to "DirectX audio output" does not fix the problem.

You restarted VLC?

Correct; I did. Does not fix the problem.

The problem consistently appears after my computer wakes from sleep/standby. Again, VLC is still the only program showing any issue. Appears to happen with all file types (movies & music).

This general pattern repeats, quickly, ad-infinitum. Please let me know if you need more information.

Code: Select all

main debug: toggling pause main debug: toggling pause mmdevice debug: state changed: 1 main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main warning: timing screwed (drift: 133332 us): stopping resampling main warning: playback too late (133167): up-sampling main warning: playback way too late (180499): flushing buffers mmdevice debug: state changed: 0 wasapi debug: reset main debug: inserting 19728 zeroes mmdevice debug: state changed: 1 main warning: playback too late (61687): up-sampling main warning: timing screwed (drift: 123730 us): stopping resampling main warning: playback too late (123000): up-sampling main warning: playback way too late (183021): flushing buffers mmdevice debug: state changed: 0 wasapi debug: reset main debug: inserting 19711 zeroes mmdevice debug: state changed: 1 main warning: playback too late (63145): up-sampling main warning: timing screwed (drift: 127249 us): stopping resampling main warning: playback too late (126957): up-sampling main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main warning: playback way too late (181167): flushing buffers mmdevice debug: state changed: 0 wasapi debug: reset main debug: inserting 19711 zeroes mmdevice debug: state changed: 1 main warning: playback too late (61228): up-sampling main warning: timing screwed (drift: 127832 us): stopping resampling main warning: playback too late (127603): up-sampling main warning: playback way too late (185208): flushing buffers mmdevice debug: state changed: 0 wasapi debug: reset

I just restarted my PC and re-played the first 30 seconds of the same file. This is the result when I am not experiencing any audio issues, for contrast:

Code: Select all

main debug: toggling pause main debug: toggling pause mmdevice debug: state changed: 1 main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main debug: VoutDisplayEvent 'mouse button' 0 t=8 main debug: VoutDisplayEvent 'mouse button' 0 t=9 main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor main debug: toggling resume main debug: toggling resume mmdevice debug: state changed: 0 main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor

New member here, I was searching for a fix for this exact same problem.

All other players work fine but the audio always cuts off and I need to reselect the audio file from the audio menu
