Remote Control not working , lue script error

Postby cinetron » 21 May 2018 07:31

I am on Ubuntu 18.04 and using version 3.0.1 Vetinari (revision 3.0.1-0-gec0f700fcc) of VLC . When I try to run an instance of VLC using remote control ie. from the command line:

Code: Select all

vlc --extraintf rc --rc-host=localhost:1234 --fullscreen
the output is

Code: Select all

VLC media player 3.0.1 Vetinari (revision 3.0.1-0-gec0f700fcc) [0000559a570fb570] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface. [0000559a571d5f10] [cli] lua interface: Listening on host "localhost:1234". [0000559a571d5f10] [cli] lua interface error: Error loading script /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/vlc/lua/intf/cli.luac: lua/intf/modules/host.lua:221: table index is nil
Does anyone know what is causing the lua script error that is preventing me from using RC . Using the same command on Windows is working for me however I want to use this on Linux. Thanks for any pointers.

I also tried this on OSX although the VLC version was 3.0.0 . So I got RC working on Windows however Linux and OSX gave me the same error message.

I also tried using this command to start vlc but get a connection refused message when trying to connect

Code: Select all

vlc --extraintf=oldrc --rc-host tcp://127.0.0.1:1234/
The output of the above code is:

Code: Select all

VLC media player 3.0.1 Vetinari (revision 3.0.1-0-gec0f700fcc) Remote control interface initialized. Type `help' for help. [0000563a1f4ee570] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface. [0000563a1f4f24e0] main playlist: playlist is empty
Any thoughts on this? I really need to get it working. Thanks
