Ultra HD (4k 60fps) HEVC Playback Problems

Postby jerikooo » 22 Apr 2018 18:15

Heyho!

I'm using the latest VLC Version (3.0.1, 64bit).
My Samsung Smartphone can record 4k 60fps videos with the 'new' hevc /x265 codec. If playing them, my video is greenish. Recording in the 'old' x264 codec everything is fine.

Any ideas?

Tanks and best regards :)

Your logs are not from 3.0.2, I'm afraid.

Further steps i tried: Updating drivers of Intel graphics (Intel 620) and AMD graphics (M330) of my notebook, unfortunately still greenish.

I tried "Potplayer" - there are no problems. Therefore I assume, it's a codec problem of VLC. But I'm no expert at all, so I hope you can provide a solution. I'm using vlc for years now.

Can i provide more information, which can help to solve this problem?

best regards

Are you playing it via RTSP ?
If so, does it work if you play it locally ?

what about --rate=0.40 for example ?

I tried to start vlc like this:

"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --rate=0.40

If i load the mp4, problem still persisting. The sound is weird, too.

This sample works fine here on an HD630 with 4980 drivers.

Not sure what (probably the drivers) but something is wrong on your system `Output max luminance: 270.0, colorspace RGB Rec.709 gamma:22 range:FULL, bits per pixel 6`. 6 bits per pixel ??? That's what DXGI says about the SwapChain output format. It may be using DXGI_FORMAT_B5G6R5_UNORM internally. Do you have a 16 bits screen ?

On our side we output pixels as floats so it should not matter if it's 6-8-10-12-16 bits. It's up to the driver to handle the range conversion into integer values.

Can you post logs from newer drivers than 4749 ?

On my Computer the linked Video play fine with the Microsoft Windows 10 Videoplayer.

With the VLC-Player 3.0.2 (64 Bit) the same Video only play the audio-track fine.
The Video-Track will stop for some Seconds in the middle of the File, during the audio playing.

My Computer:
Intel Core i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (Driver 23.21.13.9135 - 23.03.2018)
Windows 10 Pro (10.0.16299)

Re: Ultra HD (4k 60fps) HEVC Playback Problems

Postby jerikooo » 24 Apr 2018 14:23

I updated my Intel graphics and AMD graphics to the latest drivers. Error persists.

Just tried MediaPlayerClassic HD. Video works fine. Just for information. Nevertheless I want to stick to VLC :) Hoping for a fix....
