It appears that none of the metadata (song title and artist) for live network streams is showing up in VLC v3. I've tried Mac, and Windows versions of VLC and it appears the metadata no longer appears after VLC version 2.
I am sending an Intranet stream via IceCast 2 with encoded music from RadioCaster. The stream address is http://<LAN_ip_address>:8000/stream and on VLC v2.2.8 this displays the Title and Artist of my stream, the metadata. On VLC v3.0.1 that metadata does not show.
XIIALive on Android, iTunes and older VLC versions all show metadata and something on the new VLC version (or its decoding of the RadioCaster/IceCast2 streams) is now not working for me. Since the stream is only on LAN I can't demo it for you. I will keep experimenting.
Update... Never mind... Apparently I needed to run the configuration wizard on my encoder application, RadioCaster. The configuration wizard helps configure the encoded streams. My stream configurations were set up with a much earlier version of RadioCaster and they seemed OK for showing metadata in the older versions of VLC (and most of the other apps I am using) but not the latest VLC version 3.0.1. After re-configuring the streams all are working with song titles and artists in VLC 3.0.1.
I am having the same problem. My source is icecast2 2.4.0. When I updated VLC I lost the metadata which is set to the name of the receiving channel on my scanner. You can see(?) the stream at https://home.greybeard.org/scanner
On iOS same problem , after updating VLC yesterday no stream info, metadata .. not from https://radiopatapoe.nl:8004/transit nor from any other stream ..
Someone mentioned radiocaster and using that to update his stream. Can that one explain what radiocaster did?
